In Wake of Peace Summit, Libya Fighting Spirals Out of Control (AUDIO INTERVIEW)

One week after a major international peace conference in Berlin brought together warring Libyan factions in a bid to end the near-decade-long conflict, fighting has broken out between competing forces in the eastern part of the country. The battle pits loyalists of strongman Khalifa Haftar’s self-styled Libyan National Army against those backing the United Nations-recognized, Tripoli-based Government of National Accord, which is led by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj. The latest violence also comes on the heels of a failed Russian-Turkish attempt to broker a cease-fire earlier this month, and amid an ongoing months-long assault by the LNA on the capital.

The Media Line discussed the growing instability in Libya with Avi Melamed, founder and CEO of Inside the Middle East: Intelligence Perspectives.
