Intense Bombings and Stalled Peace Talks Mark Ongoing Conflict in Gaza

As Gaza City faced another week of intense bombings, described by residents as reminiscent of the war’s fiercest battles, efforts to broker peace have once again faltered. Israeli forces have been bombarding the Gaza Strip for the last 10 months, leading to substantial destruction across the territory and a tragic toll of over 38,000 Palestinian lives lost, according to Gaza medical authorities.

This Thursday, Israeli airstrikes continued their lethal toll, claiming the lives of at least six people in Gaza City and 19 others throughout the Gaza Strip. The civil emergency service reported that the bodies of at least 30 Palestinians, killed over the past three days, lay scattered along roads made unreachable by the ongoing conflict.

The latest round of peace negotiations, held in Egypt and Qatar and heavily influenced by US mediation efforts, ended without any substantial agreements. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the Palestinian group Hamas for presenting demands that he claimed contradicted an earlier framework deal facilitated by Washington. However, specific details of these demands were not disclosed.

In a statement released Thursday, Hamas accused Israel of stalling the negotiations to extend the conflict, a tactic it claims Israel has employed repeatedly. The group noted that mediators have not updated it on the state of the discussions since Hamas made concessions last week in response to a US-backed Israeli peace proposal.
