Where Israel Stands as Ally (US) Meets Foe (Iran) (AUDIO INTERVIEW)

As tensions rise between the United States and Iran, the potential for a full-blown conflict in the Middle East seems to be getting stronger with each passing moment.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump was slated to impose additional sanctions on Tehran, which has lashed out over the past month by allegedly conducting attacks targeting tankers in the Gulf.

This weekend, US media reported that the American leader had approved a limited military strike on Iranian assets in response to the downing a US drone by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps over what Washington claims was international waters.

Perhaps lost in the mix is Israel, a staunch US ally whose Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, has been one of the most vocal opponents of the Islamic Republic’s regional expansionism as well as the 2015 nuclear deal, from which President Trump withdrew last year.

Should a war indeed break out in the Gulf, it is likely that Israel would find itself in the mix, whether by acting in conjunction with US forces or if Iran orders its proxies in Lebanon, Syria and the Gaza Strip to attack the Jewish state.

The Media Line discussed Israel’s precarious situation with Uzi Rubin, who has been described as the “father of Israeli missile defense.”
