Ramadan in the West Bank: Economic Hardship Looms Large Over Festivities (VIDEO)

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan is a period for self-reflection and enhanced spirituality, inter-mixed with the daily festive Iftar meal in which the devout break their sunrise to sundown fast. With Ramadan coming to an end this week, many of the faithful are looking forward to Eid al-Fitr, a three-day celebration replete with family gatherings and joyous outings.

But this year, emotions are dampened in the West Bank as Palestinians face a near-unprecedented financial crisis that has impacted on businesses and workers alike.

The Media Line took to the streets of Ramallah to discuss the prevailing economic hardships with residents.
