Potential Ramifications of the Battle for Syria’s Idlib Province (AUDIO INTERVIEW)

The war in Syria appears far from over, as regime forces – with the backing of Russian air support – continue an offensive in northwestern Idlib Province, the final major bastion of rebel-held territory.

At risk are some 3 million residents on the cusp of an “unprecedented humanitarian crisis.”

Syria, Russia and Iran are pressuring Turkey to control the remaining Al-Qaida-linked fighters in Idlib while Ankara is demanding that Moscow put the reins on the Assad regime’s assault.

The Media Line discussed the complex developments with Dr. Nir Boms, a research fellow at the Moshe Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University and at the International Center for Counter Terrorism in Herzliya. Previously, he was a vice president at the Washington-based Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
