Uncertainty Surrounds U.S. ‘Peace and Prosperity’ Workshop in Bahrain (AUDIO INTERVIEW)

U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on Israel’s political dysfunction this week, saying the country needed to “get [its] act together” following the inability of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to form a government in the wake of recent elections.

President Trump is not alone in his conviction, however, the American leader seemed less concerned about the state of Israeli democracy than with the wrench it has thrown into the planned unveiling of his much-hyped Israeli-Palestinian peace proposal.

Indeed, the White House is reportedly contemplating shelving the political elements of the plan until 2020. The U.S. administration is also debating the merits of a “workshop” scheduled for later this month in Bahrain, where the Americans intended to release the economic components of the peace proposal geared toward improving Palestinian living conditions.

The Media Line discussed the “elephants in the room” that have repeatedly delayed the publication of the U.S. peace plan with Dr. Jacques Neriah, a senior Middle East analyst at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and former foreign policy adviser to Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin.
