Biden says variant cause for ‘concern’ not ‘panic’

US President Joe Biden said the US will not impose more travel bans for now in order to prevent the spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus. Currently the US is banning gravel from eight southern African countries. Biden said the point of the travel restrictions is to give more Americans time to get vaccinated. He said that the variant is “a cause for concern, not a cause for panic.” Biden called on Americans to get their booster shot if they are vaccinated and to get their shot if they have not been vaccinated. Biden said that his chief medical adviser, Dr. Anthony Fauci, believes that the existing vaccines will successfully work against the new variant.
