Thousands of people in Yemen could be dying from cholera due to health facilities being overwhelmed by the coronavirus and people not seeking treatment for fear of catching the disease, Oxfam said on Tuesday. There is concern that there are tens of thousands of people with undetected and untreated cholera after a 50% decrease in recorded suspected cholera cases the second three months of 2020 compared to the first three months of the year. Oxfam warned that Yemen could face a catastrophe with both COVID-19 and cholera potentially peaking in the coming weeks.
