Portugal goes to polls in midst of coronavirus surge

Portugal, in the midst of record-breaking coronavirus infections and deaths, is holding its presidential election Sunday. Though the presidency lacks legislative powers, it has an important voice in running the country. Last week over 80,000 Portuguese were infected by the virus and more than 1,300 died from the coronavirus, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center. Current President and former law professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, 72, is regarded as the front-runner among seven candidates.
