President of Tanzania publicly receives vaccine

The president of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, publicly received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine on Wednesday in an effort to convince citizens to get vaccinated. Hassan’s vaccination kicks off a nationwide inoculation campaign. Tanzania is one of the last countries to begin vaccinating. Former President John Maguguli, who died in March, had resisted the vaccines and warned his citizens against them. Since Hassan took office, the country has encouraged wearing masks and social distancing. Tanzania’s prime minister, chief justice and other leaders also got vaccinated on Wednesday.
