Uganda orders stricter lockdown as virus cases rise dramatically

Uganda has introduced stricter lockdown restrictions to try to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The new restrictions include a ban on private and public transportation, except for cargo-carrying vehicles and vehicles transporting essential workers or sick people. The restrictions were announced late on Friday by Uganda’s president, Yoweri Museveni. The new restrictions come in addition to ongoing night-time curfew. Shops in the capital, Kampala, also have been ordered to close. The restrictions will be in effect for 42 days. Uganda has experienced a dramatic rise in coronavirus infections, which have swamped the health care system and completely filled hospitals.
