Iran on Wednesday passed 20,000 confirmed coronavirus deaths, the Health Ministry said. Iran’s 20,125 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker, are the highest in the Middle East.
Lebanon’s coronavirus cases reach 10,000

Lebanon on Wednesday reached 10,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, recording 589 new infections along with two more deaths. The total COVID-19 infections in Lebanon as of Thursday stood at 10,347, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker.
Bahrain ends mandatory self-isolation for arrivals

Bahrain on Wednesday announced that it would end a protocol requiring all arrivals to self-isolate for 10 days regardless of coronavirus testing results, the Health Ministry said in a statement. Beginning Thursday, arrivals who test negative won’t have to self-isolate while those who test positive will have to quarantine for 10 days and then be tested again.
Switzerland adds 11 countries to mandatory quarantine list

Switzerland on Tuesday added 11 countries to its mandatory quarantine list. From Thursday, anyone who spent time in the following countries and regions within 14 days of arrival to Switzerland must self-isolate for 10 days: Albania, Andorra, Aruba, Belgium, Belize, Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Guam, Monaco, Namibia and the Balearic Islands. Five countries were removed from the list: Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe, Saudi Arabia, Serbia and Singapore.
Australia to supply AstraZeneca vaccine for free

Australia on Tuesday announced a deal with British drugmaker AstraZeneca to supply a potential COVID-19 vaccine being developed to its entire population of 25 million free of charge, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.
Western Wall tunnels reopening

The Western Wall tunnels in Jerusalem’s Old City will reopen on Thursday after being closed for five months due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation announced on Tuesday. Tours will be available by advanced reservation only, with a limit of 20 people. Visitors must abide by Israel’s coronavirus regulations.

Abu Dhabi cinemas reopen at 30% capacity

Health minister: Lebanon needs 2-week lockdown

Hamad Hassan, health minister for Lebanon’s caretaker government, on Monday told the Voice of Lebanon radio that the country should be locked down for two weeks after a spike in coronavirus cases. Lebanon registered a record 439 new cases and six fatalities on Sunday.

India passes 50,000 coronavirus deaths

India on Monday reported 941 new fatalities from coronavirus, bringing the country’s total deaths in the pandemic to 50,921. India has the third-highest number of cases in the world behind Brazil and the US, with 2,647,663 reported infections, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker. Of the total cases, 1,919,842 have recovered.
