Sumo wrestler dies from coronavirus

A Japanese sumo wrestler died from the coronavirus on Wednesday, Japanese public broadcaster NHK said. Wrestler Shobushi, whose real name is Kiyotaka Suetake, is the first sumo wrestler to die from COVID-19, according to the Japan Sumo Association.
Israel arrests over 300 haredi men for defying coronavirus orders

Saudi Arabia will enforce a complete lockdown over the five-day Eid al-Fitr holiday marking the end of fasting for Ramadan, the Saudi Interior Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday. The lockdown will be in force from May 23 to 27.

Brazil on Tuesday passed Germany in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases and reached a record number of daily deaths with 881, the most since the outbreak began in Brazil. As of Wednesday, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Brazil stood at 178,214, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker. Brazil’s death toll stood at 12,461.
Mexico reports highest daily death count

Mexico on Tuesday reported the country’s highest daily increase in coronavirus deaths with 353 fatalities along with 1,997 new infections. As of Wednesday, the number of confirmed cases in Mexico stood at 38,324 with 3,926 fatalities, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker.

The number of coronavirus deaths in the US passed 80,000 on Monday, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker. The US leads the world in the total number of fatalities at 80,684 as of Tuesday. The US is also home to the highest number of cases with Tuesday’s tally of 1,347,936.
