20 Palestinians Injured in Violent Protests in Sheikh Jarrah

At least 20 Palestinians were wounded and four Palestinians arrested during protests in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah. The protests on Monday night were dispersed by Israel Police officers who used riot dispersal methods such as tear gas and water cannons, as well as batons and sponge-tipped bullets in the effort.

The Palestinian protesters threw stones and firebombs at Jewish homes in the neighborhood, according to reports. A woman, who is pregnant, was injured after being hit with a rock.

The unrest on Monday night is the latest protests in recent weeks as a Supreme Court decision nears about evicting several Palestinian families from homes originally owned by Jews before the 1948 war and reclaimed by a Jewish organization. Violence in the neighborhood is considered one of the factors leading to the recent cross-border violence between Hamas in Gaza and Israel, known in Israel as Operation Guardian of the Walls.
