6 Injured as Houthi Missile Strikes Ben Gurion Airport Grounds After Failed Interception

Shrapnel fell near Israel’s central Ben Gurion Airport, grounding flights, after a ballistic missile was launched at Israel from Yemen on Sunday. The missile, fired by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, marked the fourth such attack since Friday,

The IDF said multiple interception attempts were made, but all were unsuccessful. “An impact was identified in the area of Ben Gurion Airport,” the military said in a statement. No injuries or major damage were immediately reported, though the failure triggered an investigation by the Israeli Air Force’s aerial defense command.

Emergency responders treated six people for injuries related to the blast. Magen David Adom reported that one man in his 50s sustained trauma to his limbs and is in moderate condition, while two women were injured by the shockwave. Three others were hurt while seeking shelter or by flying debris. Two more individuals were treated for acute anxiety. All were evacuated to hospitals in central Israel.

The attack briefly grounded flights and closed airspace over Ben Gurion Airport for approximately an hour. Airlines responded quickly: the Lufthansa Group canceled all Sunday flights to and from Tel Aviv, while Air Europa canceled its Tel Aviv–Madrid route. Surveillance footage captured the moment of impact, showing the missile striking a grove adjacent to airport infrastructure.

Sirens sounded across wide swaths of central Israel shortly before the impact, warning of the incoming threat. The Houthi group also launched two drones over the weekend, which were successfully intercepted. The Houthis, who are aligned with Iran and control much of northern Yemen, have repeatedly targeted Israel in what they claim is support for Palestinians in Gaza.
