Attack on Military Parade, Separate Blast Kill Dozens in Yemen

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement launched missile and drone attacks on a military parade in Aden, Yemen, on Thursday, killing at least 32 people, Reuters reported, citing unidentified security and medical sources. The Houthis’ official Al Masirah TV, quoting a Houthi spokesman, said the group attacked the parade in a pre-emptive strike against the “advance [by the Saudi-led coalition] on Taiz and Dalea,” provinces held by the movement. Aden is held by government troops loyal to exiled President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi. In a separate attack, an explosives-laden car blew up at a police station in another district of the city, killing several people. The Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility and it remains unclear if the incidents were related. The Houthi movement dislodged the Hadi government from the capital Sanaa in 2014, and Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates intervened in Yemen in 2015 to restore the internationally recognized Hadi. The ongoing conflict, primarily seen as a proxy war between Riyadh and Tehran, has killed tens of thousands of people and left millions on the brink of starvation.
