Bashar Assad Sworn in for 4th Term as Syrian President
Syrian President Bashar Assad was sworn in for his fourth seven-year term. Assad was sworn in on Saturday at the presidential palace.
His hold on power was cemented for seven more years after elections in May in which Assad won 95% of the vote with a voter turnout of 78%, and which were panned internationally as neither fair nor free.

It is the second time that Assad has been elected and sworn in amid a civil war in the country.
Assad came into power in 2000 upon the death of his father, Hafez.
