Blast Rocks Kabul, Killing at Least Six

A bomb blast on Friday in Afghanistan’s capital city has left at least six people dead and close to 30 wounded, according to government officials. It was not immediately clear whether the morning blast was a suicide bombing, although one official was quoted by a media outlet as saying it appeared to have been caused by an explosive device attached to the underside of a car parked near the entrance to Kabul University. No classes were taking place at the university although one bystander said that several people were on campus to take an exam to become judges. There were no immediate claims of responsibility, although the Taliban, the extreme Islamist group that once ran the country and refuses to talk peace with the administration of President Ashraf Ghani, has carried out attacks in Afghanistan even during talks in Qatar with the United States. Kabul’s police chief said sappers had defused a second bomb planted nearby.
