At least 23 people were killed and 45 were wounded Tuesday at a ceramics factory in Khartoum when a fire broke out after a gas tanker exploded. Several of the injured are in critical condition and are being treated for burns at local hospitals. The gas tanker was unloading its shipment to the factory when it exploded, with a blast so powerful that it blew the tanker into a nearby lot. State TV said a rescue operation was ongoing. Sudan has recently suffered from a number of industrial accidents, and a fire damaged Khartoum’s presidential palace earlier this year.
