Explosive Device Found at Israeli Embassy in Sweden in ‘Attempted Terror Attack’

An object believed to be an explosive device was discovered on the grounds of the Israeli Embassy in central Stockholm on Wednesday in an incident described by the Israeli ambassador to Sweden as an “attempted terror attack.”

Embassy staff reportedly noticed the suspicious object around 13:10 local time and alerted the Swedish police, who deployed a large force to the site. Swedish news reports said that armed police converged on the scene with sandbags in case the device detonated. They also closed off the embassy area with a 100-meter buffer zone.

The national bomb unit removed the object and destroyed it in a controlled environment, a police spokesperson said.

In a post on social media platform X, Israeli Ambassador to Sweden Ziv Nevo Kulman described the incident as an “attempted terror attack” and thanked the police for their rapid and professional response.

“We will not be intimidated by terror,” he wrote.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson declared the situation “very serious” and confirmed that the Swedish Security Service was working to find out who was responsible. He added that surveillance of the embassy and all other Jewish sites was being expanded and strengthened.

The incident comes after the Swedish government announced that it would join the United States and a bloc of a dozen other countries in pausing funding for UNRWA, the UN agency that assists Palestinian refugees, earlier this week.
