Heavy Turbulence on Qatar Airways Flight Leaves a Dozen Injured

Extreme turbulence aboard a Qatar Airways flight traveling from Doha to Dublin on Sunday left twelve people injured, eight of whom required hospitalization, Irish aviation officials said.

The Dublin Airport Authority released a statement saying that local emergency services, including law enforcement, medical, and fire department personnel, boarded the flight immediately upon landing after learning that six crew members and six passengers had reported injuries.

Later, the hospital received eight of the twelve individuals in question for further treatment.

While Flight QR017, which took place aboard a wide-body jet airliner, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, landed as scheduled at 1 p.m. local time, airport officials stated that the flight encountered severe weather conditions over Turkey.

Following the incident, Qatar Airways released a statement confirming the incident, noting that “the matter is now subject to an internal investigation.”

The incident on Sunday marked the second major injury incident on an international passenger flight this week, prompting some climate change experts to once again warn of an increase in the frequency of aviation accidents caused by extreme weather.

Extreme turbulence on a Singapore Airlines flight from London last Tuesday caused dozens of injuries, while one man died from a heart attack.
