The incidents reflect a growing threat to US assets in the Middle East amid the escalating Gaza conflict.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels, aligned with Iran’s “axis of resistance,” have intensified their offensive, launching drones and missiles towards Israel since the Israel-Hamas war began on Oct. 7. Israeli defense systems intercepted a cruise missile near Eilat, claimed by the Houthis, emphasizing the rebels’ expanded reach.

The Houthis’ armed wing spokesman, Yahya Saree, vowed to continue such operations until Israel ceases its actions against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Moreover, the Houthis have threatened Israeli shipping and recently seized an Israel-linked cargo ship with a crew of 25, intensifying maritime tensions.
The US has also experienced a surge in attacks against its forces stationed in Iraq and Syria, with over 60 personnel injured in 66 incidents. In response, the US conducted retaliatory strikes on the Kataib Hizbullah militia in Iraq, eliciting condemnation from the Iraqi government for violating its sovereignty.
