Houthis Launch Drone Attack on Saudi Airport, Wounding 9

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement launched a drone attack on the Abha airport in southern Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning, wounding nine civilians, according to a statement by the Saudi-led anti-Houthi coalition. A previous attack on Abha by the rebel group in June killed one person and left 21 wounded. The rebel movement has increased strikes on various Saudi assets and two southern airports, including the Jizan regional airport, since May, when an oil tanker attack off the coast of the United Arab Emirates was alleged to have been orchestrated by Iran. In addition, western governments have blamed a recent attack on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on the Islamic Republic. The latest hostilities coincide with the ongoing civil war in Yemen, where the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition supporting the Yemeni government-in-exile are butting heads. The battle, largely seen as a proxy conflict between Riyadh and Tehran, has killed tens of thousands of people and left millions on the brink of starvation.
