Iran on Tuesday announced its first monkeypox case, the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported. Health Ministry spokesman Pedram Pakain said the infection was found in a 32-year-old woman from the southwestern city of Ahvaz. She has been quarantined at her home. The spokesman emphasized that the disease is treatable and does not have a high mortality rate, and added that vaccination against smallpox provides significant immunity against monkeypox, as well.
