Iran, Syria condemn US airstrikes

Iran and Syria condemned US airstrikes against Iran-backed militias based in eastern Syria.

The airstrikes on Friday targeting the Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah paramilitary group in areas in Deir al-Zor near the Syrian-Iraqi border, killed one fighter and injured four, Reuters reported citing militia officials. But others said the death toll is as high as 17, according to the report.  The attack was in retaliation for rocket attacks on US targets located in the Green Zone in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Iraq and the US have blamed Iran for the attacks, Tehran has denied its involvement in the attacks on US targets.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry urged the Biden Administration to eschew the “law of the jungle.” The Iranian Foreign Ministry called the attack an “illegal aggression.”
