A spokesman for Iran’s judiciary system says the country’s top court has affirmed the death sentence for a man identified as Amir Rahimpour, accused of spying on behalf of the US Central Intelligence Agency. Two others were given jail terms. According to the Islamic Republic’s semi-official Fars news agency, Rahimpour allegedly handed over nuclear secrets. “Recently, the Supreme Court upheld his sentence, and you will see it carried out soon,” Fars quoted judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili as saying during a live-streamed news conference. Esmaili added that two others “working under the cover of an organization and charitable foundation” were “sentenced to 10 years in prison for spying and five years in prison for acting against national security” on behalf of the CIA. There were no specifics given regarding the charges, and their names were not used because the appeals process had not been finalized.
