Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi met on Wednesday at the Kremlin in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two-day visit by Raisi is meant to shore up relations between the two countries. It is the first visit to Russia by an Iranian president in five years.
“We have common interests with Russia and our collaboration and common interests could certainly create security and combat unilateralism in the region,” Raisi said on Wednesday prior to leaving for Moscow.

The two presidents will discuss issues including politics, economics, energy, trade, and space, Al Jazeera reported. Russia and Iran are working on a new long-term bilateral agreement, according to the report. Raisi also is scheduled to address the Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, and to meet with Iranians living in Russia on Thursday.
The meeting comes as talks continue in Vienna to reinstate the nuclear accord between Iran and world powers that was originally signed in 2015; Russia supports reupping the deal, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action.
