Iraq: Islamic State Kills 6, Injures 5

Six people were killed and five injured Monday in attacks by the Islamic State group in Iraq’s Kirkuk and Diyala provinces, a provincial official and a police source said.

In Kirkuk province, IS fighters set fire to a wheat farm in the Taza area outside the city of Kirkuk, some 250 kilometers north of Baghdad. When a joint force of Iraqi police, members of the paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces, and villagers rushed to the farm to extinguish the fire, IS gunmen opened fire on them, killing three policemen and two villagers. Islamic State fighters also detonated a roadside bomb near a police vehicle, damaging it. When reinforcements came to confront the Islamic State members, they fled the scene.

In Diyala province, IS combatants attacked a village near the town of Jalawlaa, about 135 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, killing a villager and wounding five others, including three women.
