IRGC Figure Says US Carrier, Bases ‘Within Range of Our Missiles’

A commander in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Tuesday that US bases and naval vessels in the Gulf were within the range of Iranian missiles, according to the country’s Tasnim news agency. “American bases are within the range of our missiles…. Our missiles will destroy their aircraft carriers if they make a mistake,” Brig.-Gen. Hossein Nejat said. “Americans are very well aware of the consequences of a military confrontation with Iran.” Tensions have escalated between the United States and the Islamic Republic ever since the Trump Administration withdrew the US from the 2015 multilateral nuclear deal and re-imposed economic sanctions last year. Tensions further flared over recent attacks against US allies in the Gulf, leading to an increase in the deployment of American troops to the region as well as sanctions on Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran announced this week it had surpassed the pact’s limits on how much enriched uranium it could stockpile, as well as the enrichment level.
