Israel Bans Foreign Marathon Runners Over Fear of Virus

As a precaution against the potential spread of coronavirus, Israel’s Health Ministry on Monday instructed the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality to restrict the participation of international runners in the Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon, which will be held this Friday. The municipality said that marathon officials would contact registrants abroad to inform them of the Health Ministry’s decision and that registrants’ money would be fully refunded. In 2019, the Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon attracted 40,000 runners, including 2,500 international runners from over 60 countries, making it Israel’s biggest sporting event of the year.
