Israeli Military Issues New Evacuation Orders in Gaza as Violence Escalates

The Israeli military issued fresh evacuation orders on Saturday night to residents of Shejaia, a densely populated suburb of eastern Gaza City. The evacuation was attributed to continued rocket fire from the area, claimed by Hamas’ armed wing, which targeted an Israeli army base over the border. “For your safety, you must evacuate immediately to the south,” read the military’s message on social media.

The announcement triggered another wave of displacement in the already war-torn region, with residents fleeing their homes under the cover of night on donkey carts, rickshaws, and on foot, adding to the growing displacement crisis.

In central Gaza, Israeli airstrikes on Al-Maghazi and Al-Bureij camps killed at least 10 Palestinians overnight.  Israeli forces have intensified operations in northern Gaza’s Jabalia, Beit Lahiya, and Beit Hanoun, where residents reported the destruction of hundreds of homes. Palestinians accuse Israel of seeking to depopulate these areas to establish a buffer zone, a claim Israel denies.

Additionally, Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of three barely operational hospitals in northern Gaza, was struck by an Israeli drone, injuring its director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya. “This will not deter us from completing our humanitarian mission,” Abu Safiya said from his hospital bed in a video released by Gaza’s health ministry.

Israel’s campaign has killed more than 44,000 people and displaced nearly all of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, according to Gaza officials. The conflict, now in its second year, began following the Hamas-led terrorists’ cross-border attack on October 7, 2023, which killed approximately 1,200 Israelis and resulted in over 250 hostages being taken to Gaza.
