Jordan’s FM Calls on UNRWA To Diversify Funding Sources

Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Sunday told Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner general of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), that Jordan would continue to coordinate with international partners to mobilize support for UNRWA and called on donors to offer multiyear commitments, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Safadi stressed the need to diversify funding sources for UNRWA to ensure its sustainability. He also expressed his approval of the UN General Assembly’s decision in December to extend UNRWA’s mandate and his support for continuing UNRWA operations until the Palestine refugee issue is resolved in line with international law and in accordance with the two-state solution.
