Morocco’s ruling Justice and Development Party (PJD) was crushed in parliamentary elections, according to results announced early on Thursday. The top two vote-getters in the 395-seat parliament were the liberal National Rally of Independents (NRI), with 97 seats; followed by the liberal Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) with 82 seats. The center-right Istiqlal Party took third place with 78 seats.

PJD, which held 125 seats after the last election in 2016, won only 12 seats, according to the results on Thursday.
Turnout for the nationwide elections on Wednesday was 50.3%.
