Morocco, Israel Collaborate on Water, Food Security Projects Amid Political Tensions

Morocco is leveraging its ties with Israel to address water and food insecurity, partnering on projects such as sustainable aquaculture and water desalination, the Washington-based Arab American news outlet Al-Monitor reported on Sunday. Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P ) in Marrakesh is working with Israeli startups to explore algae production in the Sahara region, with Israeli investment house Halman Aldubi Technologies leading the effort. Additionally, Israeli AgriGo and Morocco’s National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture have partnered on an $11 million fish farm near Tangiers. Israel has also shared expertise in water desalination, a vital solution for drought-stricken Morocco. Although trade between the countries remains modest, these collaborations, facilitated by the Abraham Accords, contribute to Morocco’s economic stability and provide leverage over Western actors.
