National Religious Broadcasters Adopt IHRA Antisemitism Definition

The National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Board of Directors announced Tuesday it has adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism. The organization, an international association of evangelical communicators, is currently holding its annual convention, NRB 2022: A Gathering of Christian Communicators, in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Fighting antisemitism is a key issue for believers, and it’s very important that our understanding of the issue reflects cultural realities,” said Troy A. Miller, NRB CEO. “An accurate and contemporary definition of antisemitism helps us to recognize and combat this form of hatred wherever it emerges.”

The IHRA definition, which is used by the US State Department, says that: “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

The organization’s “Breakfast to Honor Israel” will be held on Thursday, and is dedicated entirely to the issue of antisemitism. The keynote speaker is Rev. Johnnie Moore, president of the Congress of Christian Leaders. Moore was a two-time appointee to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom and a recipient of the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Medal of Valor.
