Naval authorities have rescued nine of the 16 crew members of the Prestige Falcon, an oil tanker flying the flag of Comoros, two days after it capsized near the Omani coastal city of Duqm.
“Search and rescue operations have successfully found 10 crew members of the oil tanker Prestige Falcon, nine found alive. Tragically, one crew member was found deceased,” Oman’s Maritime Security Centre posted to social media platform X.
The ship was sailing towards the Yemeni city of Aden from Duqm, which is located near major oil and gas mining projects when it capsized for unknown reasons.

The search for the six individuals still missing is ongoing, the statement added.
Of the Prestige Falcon’s original 16-member crew, 13 are Indian nationals, while the other three are Sri Lankan.
The nationality of the deceased individual has not been publicly stated.
According to a spokesperson for the Indian Navy, which has also been involved in the rescue operation, eight of the rescued individuals are Indian, and one is Sri Lankan.
In coordination with Omani search and rescue, the navy spokesperson affirmed that authorities would continue to sweep the area despite “challenging weather conditions,” including “rough seas and strong winds.”
