Palestinian Teen Killed During West Bank Home Demolition Protest

Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian teen late on Sunday night during clashes over the demolition of the Jenin-area West Bank home of a Palestinian man accused of killing an Israeli man near the site of the former Homesh settlement late last year. The dead teen, who was shot in the head by live gunfire from Israeli soldiers, was identified by the Palestinian Authority Health Ministry as Mohammad Akram Ali Taher Abu Salah, 17. The Health Ministry said dozens of other Palestinians were injured as they protested the demolition.

Protesters threw firebombs and rocks, and fired guns at the Israeli soldiers who had arrived with a bulldozer to raze the home of Muhammad Jaradat, accused of killing Yehuda Dimentman, 25, when he shot on the car he was driving in after leaving the makeshift yeshiva that is operating at the Homesh site. The Israel Defense Forces says that home demolitions are a deterrent against future attacks.

The yeshiva has operated at the site for over 10 years; Homesh was evacuated in 2005.
