US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi led a US congressional delegation to Amman over the weekend to confer with King Abdullah II. A statement issued by Pelosi’s office said the trip came at “a critical time for the security and stability of the region,” mentioning the Turkish incursion in Syria “and the dangerous opening that has been provided to ISIS, Iran and Russia.” Pelosi was accompanied by the leaders or senior members of the Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, Intelligence and Homeland Security committees. “We expressed our continued appreciation for the strategic partnership between the US and Jordan and engaged in a constructive dialogue on regional stability, counter-terrorism, security cooperation, Middle East peace, economic development and other shared challenges,” Pelosi said in the statement. The delegation also met with Jordanian Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
