Iran is exporting fuel to Afghanistan at the request of the Taliban, Reuters reported. The Iranian fuel exports to Afghanistan resumed a few days ago, after the Taliban seized power in the country as the US and other foreign troops neared completion of a withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The exports began after the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), a government agency, lifted a ban on fuel exports to Afghanistan, which had been in place since Aug. 6 over concern about the safety of trading in the country.
The Taliban has cut tariffs on imports of fuel from Iran and other neighboring countries, offering a 70% discount.
Afghanistan does not have an oil industry of its own. Over 20,000 barrels per day of Iranian fuel goes to Afghanistan, Reuters reported..
