Report: Senior Israeli Official Meets Lebanese FM in Moscow

A senior Israeli official met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil in Moscow, Saudi Arabian newspaper Elaph reported, citing an anonymous source. Beirut’s top diplomat allegedly requested that Israel “stop threatening Lebanon because of Hizbullah,” which he described as “part of the components of…the Lebanese state [which] know[s] how to accommodate all parties and groups under its sovereignty.” Nevertheless, the unidentified Israeli told Bassil that while Jerusalem does not consider Lebanon an enemy, it will not hesitate to strike the Iranian proxy’s military assets in the country. Tehran has actively been trying to transfer its underling advanced technologies that can transform rudimentary projectiles into precision-guided missiles. In his address to the United Nations General Assembly last September, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu revealed that Hizbullah has set up numerous facilities to manufacture weaponry capable of reaching the entirety of the Jewish state. Former Israel Defense Forces chief-of-staff Gadi Eizenkot recently claimed that during his tenure, which ended in January, Jerusalem was a “hair’s breadth” away from full-blown war the Lebanese organization considered a terror group by most of the West. Israel and Hizbullah last fought a major war in 2006, however intermittent flare-ups continue.
