Report: Turkey Captures New ISIS Head

Turkey has captured the new head of the Islamic State during a raid in Istanbul last week, according to Turkish media. The Turkish website OdaTV first reported the arrest of Abu Al-Hasan Al-Hashimi Al-Qurayshi on Thursday. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly will formally announce the arrest in the coming days.

Abu al-Hassan took over shortly after the death of  the previous Islamic State leader, Abu Ibrahim Al-Hashimi Al-Qurayshi, during a raid by US special forces in northwestern Syria in February.

Turkish security forces have been working to arrest ISIS cells across the country in recent months, in an attempt to curry favor with its NATO allies. Islamic State members have carried out attacks across the country, including at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bombings, and four armed attacks, which have killed 315 people and injured hundreds.
