Sudan’s Cabinet approved a bill to repeal an Israel boycott law that has been on the books since 1958. The legislation needs approval of a joint meeting of Sudan’s Sovereign Council and cabinet – currently serving as Sudan’s interim government – before it goes into effect.

The legislation comes several months after Sudan agreed to normalize relations with Israel in return for being removed from the United States’ state sponsors of terrorism list.
The statement Monday announcing the move also reaffirmed “Sudan’s firm position on the establishment of a Palestinian state within the framework of a two-state solution.”
