Taliban Claim Responsibility for Fresh Kabul Bombing

At least 10 people are dead and over 40 wounded in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, from a Thursday-morning explosion claimed by the Taliban. According the Agence France-Presse news agency, a gray minivan blew up after cutting ahead of a number of vehicles in the Shash Darak neighborhood, home to the country’s national intelligence service. A hospital official told AFP that the victims included both security personnel and civilians. Shash Darak is adjacent to an area hit on Monday by another suicide bombing claimed by the Taliban, which left at least 16 people dead and scores wounded. The Islamist group has been negotiating with the United States for the past 10 months in Doha, Qatar, over a deal – said to be close – that would see at least a partial US troop withdrawal from the country. Nevertheless, it said it reserves the right to continue attacks in Afghanistan, whose government it refuses to recognize.
