The Media Line Mourns the Loss of Sgt. Amichai Oster, a Symbol of Valor
The Media Line joins in grieving for fallen Israeli soldier Sgt. 1st Class Amichai Yisrael Yehoshua Oster, a brave young man who selflessly gave his life defending his country. Amichai, 24, was the beloved son of our former colleague, Marcy Oster, who now works as a news editor at Ynetnews, and Dr. Howard Oster, deputy director of internal medicine at Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv. A reserve soldier serving in the 5th Brigade’s 7020th Battalion, Sgt. Oster lost his life Monday in a battle in the northern Gaza Strip.
Amichai, hailing from Karnei Shomron, interrupted his travels in the US to return and join the war effort as soon as the conflict began. His deep commitment to his country is remembered and honored by all who knew him. Besides his parents, Amichai leaves behind three sisters, Sarah, Emunah, and Tova, and a brother, Jonathan, who is also serving in the IDF.

Known for his dedication to volunteer work, especially with children with special needs, Amichai’s life was a testament to service and compassion. The Oster family, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, moved to Israel when Amichai was just a year old. His commitment to his country was echoed by Karnei Shomron Mayor Igal Lahav at his funeral, where he was remembered as a “charming, intelligent, and smiling young man who would do anything for his country.”
Marcy Oster, who spoke with warmth and pride of Amichai at The Media Line, reflected on her son’s dedication at his funeral: “Amichai did indeed rush here to fight for his country and for all of us. He was here doing exactly what he wanted to be doing. He died doing what he came home to do.”
The Media Line extends its heartfelt condolences to Marcy Oster and her family during this difficult time.
