UAE Envoy to Israel is Sworn In

The United Arab Emirates’ first ambassador to Israel was sworn in. Mohammed Mahmoud Al-Khaja took the oath on Sunday in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and UAE vice president, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, UAE deputy prime minister, the Emirates News Agency reported.

Sheikh Mohammed called on the new ambassador to work to strengthen friendship and cooperation with Israel, and to “maintain the culture of peace, coexistence and tolerance between the two nations’ peoples and the peoples of the region,” according to the report.

The UAE Cabinet last month approved the establishment of an embassy in Tel Aviv in Israel. Israel announced last month that it had officially opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital.
