UAE Intercepts Houthi Missile Attack on Abu Dhabi Air Base

The United Arab Emirates intercepted two ballistic missiles that targeted the capital, Abu Dhabi, on Monday morning, a week after a similar attack on an Abu Dhabi fuel depot left three people dead. No one was injured in the latest attack. The Iran-backed Houthi rebels acknowledged later on Monday morning that the missiles had targeted the al-Dhafra air base in Abu Dhabi. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea also said that the group had targeted areas in the major UAE city of Dubai.

The UAE Defense Ministry announced that in response it launched airstrikes that destroyed a ballistic missile launcher in northwestern Yemen.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s state media reported early on Monday that it had intercepted a ballistic missile, whose remnants caused damage in the south of the kingdom and that late on Sunday a ballistic missile landed in the south, injuring two foreigners and causing damage.

On Friday night, an airstrike by the Saudi-led Arab coalition in support of Yemen’s internationally recognized government that landed on a Houthi prison left at least 80 people dead, mostly African migrants being held there.

The civil war in Yemen has been ongoing since 2014.
