US Believes Bin Laden’s Son Dead, According to Reports

The United States believes Hamza bin Laden, son of assassinated al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, is dead, says Reuters, citing an anonymous US official. No further details were provided. President Donald Trump declined to comment on the report, and the White House declined to comment on whether an announcement was imminent. The New York Times reported that Washington had a role in the operation that led to Hamza’s death, which supposedly took place some time in the past two years. In February, the State Department said it was offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading “to the identification or location in any country” of Hamza, a “key” al-Qaida leader. US Special Forces killed his father at his compound in Pakistan in 2011; Hamza was allegedly under house arrest in Iran at the time. The State Department designated Hamza a global terrorist in 2017, and Saudi Arabia announced in March that it had stripped him of his citizenship by royal order in November 2018.
