US Embassy in Jerusalem Warns of Potential Attacks

The US Embassy in Israel issued a warning about a potential terrorist attack or violent protests on Tuesday, marking a year since the embassy’s relocation to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv and coinciding with the March of Return protests along Israel’s border with the Gaza Strip. “Terrorist groups may choose the anniversary, which coincides with the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv (May 14-18) or Nakba Day (May 15), to conduct violent protests or an attack,” the embassy said in a security alert, adding that it encouraged American citizens to “remain vigilant.” Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was to attend an event marking the one-year anniversary of the embassy move, which angered the Palestinian Authority and many in the international community. Earlier this month, hostilities erupted as approximately 700 rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip toward the Jewish state, killing four Israelis and injuring 200. In the Gaza Strip, 25 Palestinians were killed and 154 were injured from Israeli reprisals.
