US-Led Coalition Warns Israel Against Retaliation as Iranian Attack Looms

Officials in the US-led multinational coalition reportedly preparing to assist in repelling an anticipated Iranian attack have issued a stark warning to Israel, urging restraint in its response. According to a report by Kan news, unnamed coalition officials advised Israel to “think carefully before you attack in return” and warned, “Don’t push it. The goal at the end of the day is not to lead to an all-out war.”

This caution comes in the wake of heightened tensions following the assassination of senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, allegedly by Israel, and the subsequent killing of Hezbollah’s military chief Fuad Shukr in Beirut last week. Iran has vowed to “punish” Israel for Haniyeh’s death, raising concerns about a broader conflict in the Middle East.

In April, a similar drone and missile attack from Iran was foiled by a coalition that included Israel, the United States, Britain, France, and several Middle Eastern nations. Western diplomats believe this coalition may reassemble to counter the anticipated Iranian assault.

US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed by their national security team on Monday regarding the situation, including the ongoing preparations to support Israel’s defense. Despite the escalating tensions, Biden and Harris also discussed diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation, with an emphasis on the cease-fire-hostage release deal currently on the table between Israel and Hamas.
