The upcoming biennial international military exercise between the Israel Defense Forces and the US Army, which was scheduled to take place next month, has been postponed “due to a variety of considerations and will take place at a later date,” the IDF announced on Monday. A new date for the Juniper Cobra exercise will be announced later.

The drill was canceled due to tension in Eastern Europe and the fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to Israel’s Channel 12. All US air defense batteries are now deployed in Europe on operational alert, the news channel has speculated. In addition, the news channel noted that the US might also not be willing to participate in such an exercise, meant to focus on preparing Israel for a potential attack by Iran, while it is working to wrap up negotiations with Iran on re-upping the nuclear agreement. The IDF is preparing for a scenario in which the US military will provide assistance because there are not enough Iron Dome batteries to handle a large firing incident, according to Channel 12.
